| Abstract (ENG): |
This research-in-progress investigates the news sharing attitude on Twitter. For our
study we build on the framework of the Elaboration Likelihood Model and research on
cognitive style as indicator for high or low elaboration likelihood. The study will target
US Twitter account holders who will be recruited by using Amazon mechanical Turk
(mTurk). Preliminary results of 144 Twitter users show counter intuitive findings for the
cognitive style. In contrast to theory high cognitive style does elevate the source
credibility as influence on the news sharing attitude on Twitter and reduce the
information quality. These findings call for a deeper investigation on the inherent
characteristics of Twitter. For our next steps we plan to recruit 400-500 participants for
our study. |
