Abstract (ENG): This paper aims to give an overview for researchers on digital platform approaches in an SME and B2B context. Our research is based on a systematic literature review in which we analysed and compared existing approaches for building digital platforms with particular regard to SMEs in an B2B context. In addition, we conducted three case studies of German SMEs building their own digital B2B platforms. Our findings show that the companies shift from a traditional product-provider position to product and service providers via digital platforms. Moreover, we offer recommendations for further research.
