Abstract (ENG): Seven of the ten most valuable companies in the world operate under a digital platform business model. Consequently, the amount of scientific literature in recent years is rising. This paper intends to present an overview of the current research on digital platforms. We identified the major research streams and clustered them with a co-citation network analysis. Our work shows the main fields of interest in digital platforms, and overlaps of the research areas and fields that are still under-represented. For example, academic literature has mainly focused on B2C (Business-to-Consumer) platforms, with research on B2B (Business-to-Business) platforms being sparse. Furthermore, academic literature has yet to develop guidelines and procedures for establishing digital platforms in general and to improve knowledge transfer to practitioners. This paper contributes to research on digital platforms by presenting the current state of platform research and highlighting areas for future research.
