| Abstract (ENG): | Humans are constantly seeking meaning in life. Work has become one of the key domains for looking for meaningfulness (Baumeister, 1991; Steger and Dik, 2009). Interestingly, start-up founders and their employees are said to find more meaningfulness in their daily work. Although, recent research has developed measures for Meaningful Work (MW), they have not been tested in the entrepreneurship context. Entrepreneurial ventures and New Venture Teams (NVTs) are the backbones of most economies. Over 90% of new ventures are founded and led by teams instead of sole entrepreneurs (Beckman, 2006). The founding teams imprint the venture’s development and growth (Klotz et al., 2014). Scholars evaluated the connection of NVT variables and firm performance (e.g., Hmieleski and Ensley, 2007). However, we know little about the connection between NVTs and MW: Are start-up staff and their (co-)founders driven more by MW in their work environment, and do (co-)founders of NVTs share their level of MW with their employees? This paper investigates the meaningful work (MW) differences (if any) of individuals (founders and non-founders) that are integrated in NVTs, and to what extend their levels are substantially higher (or lower) than individuals working in non-NVT. |
