Abstract (ENG): This study explored the potential of digital technologies in promoting sustainable tourism practices. Currently, there is a lack of research addressing this matter from a technological design standpoint. To fill this research gap, this study proposed a design framework for digital technology aimed at facilitating sustainable tourism practices. This framework draws upon the affordance-actualisation model and incorporates the functional affordances proposed by Seidel et al. (2013). The design science approach served as the overarching method that guided the entire study, whilst the systematic literature review aided in the identification of key barriers to the adoption of digital technology for sustainable practices in the tourism context. Additionally, 11 semi-structured interviews were conducted to validate the barriers and success factors identified from the literature. As a result, the proposed framework guided the development of a campsite reservation platform with sustainability goals. This study emphasises the potential for digital technologies to enhance sustainable tourism and guides stakeholders in navigating this transformation.
