Abstract (ENG): |
Digital technologies have democratised entrepreneurship and created the new research field of digital entrepreneurship. They have also impacted strategic decisions, creating a new breed of leaders known as digital leaders. Whilst such leaders have helped transform digital entrepreneurial initiatives into some of the world's largest corporates (e.g., Google and Meta), the construct of digital leadership has mostly been investigated in non-entrepreneurial settings. Therefore, we aimed to understand digital leadership in digital entrepreneurial settings and its influence on their success. To achieve this, we designed an explanatory case study that involved collecting data from 89 job advertisements and eight semi-structured interviews. Utilising an abductive approach, we determined that digital leaders are not distinctive in their functions and attributes in different settings. Nevertheless, in digital entrepreneurial settings, digital leaders achieve their goals by reducing uncertainty through making data-based decisions, establishing trust by creating and sustaining information-based relationships, and rapidly adapting to the ever-changing environment. |
