Abstract (ENG): Research explored various negative aspects of social media use to gain a better understanding of its unintended consequences. The literature suggests investigating different aspects of social media thoroughly due to its multi-faceted nature. Social media is special in the case that only a small number of users actually provide content for a huge audience. Consequently, it is of importance to actually understand how content creators shape this online information ecosystem for the masses to consume. We examine the impact of high and low arousal negative emotions, namely anger and sadness, and ascertain which negative emotions prompt which coping mechanisms using quantitative analyses in the case of Instagram. The findings indicate that anger supports destructive coping strategies like deleting content or blocking users, whereas sadness promotes more content.
