Abstract (ENG): |
Modern technology affects many organizational procedures.
One of these procedures is personnel selection, which is
undergoing massive changes through the use of novel
technologies in selection and assessment, resulting in, for
example, digital interviews, gamified assessments, and the
use of machine learning algorithms. Although, research can
almost not keep up with these rapid advancements, it is
pivotal for research to not only keep a critical eye on these developments but also to generate new research findings on technology-based selection procedures and to narrow the
gap between research and practice. To do so, the six
presentations in this symposium on the “hot topic” of novel
technologies in psychological assessment all contribute to
closing important gaps in the literature covering different
technology-based assessments like cybervetting,
technology-mediated interviews, machine learning, and
gamification. The first presentation describes how the political affiliation of applicants can affect their perceived hirability by recruiters in social media cybervetting. The second paper describes the impact of the Corona pandemic on applicants’ perceptions of technology-mediated interviews. The third paper covers the
investigation of visual cues in asynchronous video interviews
and their relationship with personality. In the fourth
presentation, the question is investigated whether the
suitability of a certain job position influences the preference for human versus automated decision-making. The fifth contribution covers the question if the assessment of
communication skills differs according to the communication
medium. And finally, the sixth paper presents findings on the construct- and criterion-related validity of a game-based assessment (GBA) designed to measure cognitive ability. |
