The global fleet of commercial aircrafts will grow by 10.000 until 2026. At the same time a hard competition takes place. The next generation of Supply Chain Management („SCM 4.0“) may for many companies be the solution to survive or even to strengthen their competitive position. At March 16 event in Munich, Prof. Tobias Engel, University of Applied Sciences Neu-Ulm (Germany), gave an impressive outlook on how companies have to act in the future to reach this goal.
In his presentation Prof. Engel pointed out that only reducing internal logistic costs is not enough by far. Rather, future successful supply chain management needs to include both: internal logistic processes and external processes – and, most of all – with all partners in the supply network. In addition, the focus of future supply chain management does not have to be only on cost cutting. I.e. Public Relations, supply continuity, regulations and the brand image have to be kept into account as well to realise higher benefits. A strategy for the whole company in the future has to include information management, analytics and business intelligence, new markets, supply chain collaboration, new technologies and new production methods (for example cyber physical systems or 3D printing) to align and manage internal and external factors. |
