Abstract (ENG): The proliferation of digital technologies and services has fundamentally transformed our society over the past 30 years. This project explores the changes in the understanding of Information Warfare (IW). We conceptualize how evolving technologies reshape IW’s methods and impacts from a digital transformation perspective. We propose (1) a critical analysis of existing IW definitions to overcome its conceptual ambiguity and (2) a hermeneutic literature review to summarize the state of the art. Using Vial’s (2021) digital transformation framework, the paper conceptualizes IW as a sociotechnical process, highlighting the influence of digital technologies in enabling IW attacks and their subsequent impact on societal structures and political outcomes.
