Abstract (ENG): Anti-democratic attitudes threaten the stability of Western societies. A main driver for the proliferation of these attitudes is anti-democratic fringe content on social media. This project draws on the concept of attitude inoculation to propose a prebunking intervention adapted from the disinformation context to counter the propagation of anti-democratic social media content. Attitude inoculation leverages the mental immune system, conferring resistance to individuals against persuasion from anti-democratic content. The effectiveness of the developed intervention will be evaluated by employing a controlled, three-group randomized experimental design. By countering socially undesirable effects enabled by digital technologies, we aim to protect Western societies from anti-democratic, authoritarian societal shifts.
