In the past, broadcast and mobile communication networks evolved independently and were used with different terminal devices. For future applications, neither of these networks alone will be ideally suited due to limitations of the system characteristics. However, their combination would offer both the high downstream data rate of a mobile broadcast system and the interactivity channel of mobile communication systems. Using the new IP Datacast system, it is possible to utilize both bradcast content and mobile communications services on a single device. This paper presents the IP Datacast specification and describes an implementation of the IP Datacast system. |
